Scrapbooking Christmas Pictures
Christmas is a time that is abundant with great content for
scrapbooks. Be sure to include Christmas pictures of family and
friends in your scrapbooking collection. A fun way to tie it all together without overdoing the photographs are additional Christmas
pictures of holiday art or themes. You can find Christmas themed art
in tons of places. Old Christmas cards, coloring books, magazines,
children’s drawings, there are almost unlimited possibilities. Small
ornaments (bought or self-made) with Christmas pictures or scenes are
distinctive additions as well.
Use Available Items:
You may begin compiling your Christmas themed art well before the
holiday season begins and add to it as the magazines and the
local stores begin to incorporate Christmas items into their inventory.
A cute way to use both Christmas pictures of your family and a
Christmas art theme as well would be using small cut outs of
gingerbread men with their faces made up as different friends and
family members. You can cut out Polaroid pictures of each of their
faces, create individual gingerbread men according to each person’s
personality and glue the faces onto the gingerbread men once complete.
If an older child loves a particular sport, their gingerbread man
could be made wearing a uniform from their team. If you have a spouse
who works in a uniform, a gingerbread man could be
easily made to accommodate them. The more personality you can add to
your gingerbread family, the better.
Another great way to add Christmas pictures to your layout might be
by using Christmas cookie cutters to trace Christmas pictures into
your pages. Be sure to dress them up a bit after tracing them by
adding accessories such as glitter, buttons, paint, whatever’s handy!
You even can title your pages using these shapes.
Extra Details:
If you are interested in putting a little more time and attention
to detail into your Christmas pages, here’s a layout especially for
you:
This layout creates present "packages" for each of the Christmas
pictures in your pages. Select several Christmas pictures of your
relatives to fit into a page or section. Lay them out and calculate how much room you will need in order to fit each one into
the pages.
Next, take your pictures and trace their shape (long for landscape
pictures and tall for portrait) onto several different colors of
construction paper. Leave about ¼ of an inch along the left
hand side of the picture (I will tell you why later on in the
directions). For every Christmas picture you trace, CUT TWO identical
pieces of construction paper. I use the double-cut method (one layer of
construction paper on top of another) while cutting these out
to save time. If you choose to use this method as well, be
sure that you take your time while cutting and do not create any rough
or frayed edges.
Once you have traced and then cut out all of your long and tall
rectangles, choose one layer of each double-cut piece to be the front
of your present. Decorate it with anything you like in keeping with a
wrapping paper feel. I used stripes in many of mine. If you have scrap pieces of cloth with a Christmas print on it, this can be used
as wrapping paper also. Even hand-drawn or stamped Christmas items
will work as well. Embroidery thread makes for beautiful and
convincing ribbon for the sides and tops of your presents.
Finishing Touch:
After you have finished decorating the front of each present, you
are now ready to glue your Christmas picture to the opposite piece of
construction paper which you cut in an earlier step. The hinge area is
the reason why you left the extra space on the left side of the
picture in the cutting stage. Keep in mind that you will be hinging
the two pieces together, so use the extra room provided for two small
punch holes or a glued bar along the left side of the picture. You can
use ribbon to tie them together if you use the punch method, or for
decoration if you choose to use the glue alternative instead. The
embroidery thread used for making the ribbon decorations on the gift
is also good for this application.
When the glue has had enough time to dry, you can carefully paste
each present into your scrapbook. One final touch that I think is
really great is to create little "gift tag" cut outs that you use to
label the presents with the person’s name on it whose
picture is inside the present.
When finished, you should have a pages or section of pages full of
"gifts," that when opened reveal the family member or members inside.
This is an adorable way to showcase your Christmas pictures inside
your scrapbook’s Christmas layout.
